The Many Lives of Material Objects

The perfect illusion is to think material things are ours, we know we don’t get to take them with us. Yet we acquire artifacts, which we don’t consider how they lived before us. There, they hang, perfectly quiet as our lives vulnerably unfold before them. That saying, “If walls could talk” also goes for things we so affectionally chose for our homes. And while some collectors acquire items for investments, others collect transcending stories.

I am constantly aware how much unnecessary things humans continue to produce, as if it was a race…well it is actually a popularity contest. And with all the glory and romance in the world, why would you need to acquire so much newness? Giving furniture, art, objects a second life is as inspiring and provoking as having a cup a tea with a great philosopher…one that winks at you every time you walk by.
